Some news from around the web:

NETFLIX STICKS

Netflix distribution centers are on the blink, and that means you’re not getting your copy of Batman Begins any time soon. All 55 shipping centers are not feeling well - but they are working on it (of course). So, watch your last DVD one or two more times while you wait. Click HERE for the full story from ABC News.

TV ON TOP, NEWSPAPERS DROPPING

The internet has become number two for those of us looking for our daily dose of news. Newspapers are losing ground - but you probably knew that, considering your reading this post, and not the Times. Another thing you probably knew without us telling you, is that those of us on the internet for our news fix are generally more intelligent and educated. Isn’t it nice to be on top? Click HERE for the full story, as found on WIRED.

Some news from around the web:

SOUNDS LIKE DRUGS

The new buzz on the internet: Digital drugs. You don’t snort them or shoot them; just grab a set of headphones. It used to be parents worried about kids getting drugs from the street - but their stereo? The concept is binaural beats - a different sound is played into each ear, and the brain trips out while trying to make sense of them. Weird. Find out more HERE, from ABC and USA Today.

100 MPG?

That’s what New York- based Zero Pollution Motors is claiming. 106 mpg to be exact. What does their car run on? Air. Not an unheard of concept, after all, the steam engine is nothing new. Compressed air is used to run the car at speeds of 30 mph and below, then a small engine kicks in to heat the air when you hit freeway speeds. Supposedly, we’ll see them in 2010 with a retail price of $18,000 us. Sign us up! Find out more HERE, From CNN.

Rumor Mill for August 4th

August 04, 2008 By: pbrown Category: Apple, Rumors

rumor-mill-for-august-4th

This weeks rumor comes out of Cupertino, Ca

AppleInsider claims that Apple resellers have received notice that MacBook, MacBook Pro and iPod supplies will become constrained in the coming weeks. Apple expects to decrease production of these models and, as a result, Apple is recommending that resellers stock up on supplies now to last them through August.

Based on past experiences and knowledge of their own inventory sell-through, those resellers who received the bulletin believe the notice is a strong indicator that Apple will begin introducing its holiday consumer electronics and Mac offerings sometime in early to mid-September.
Apple has refreshed their iPod lineup in September for the past 2 years and is widely expected to do the same again this year. Apple’s free iPod Touch Back to School promotion coincidentally ends on September 15th.

Rumored possibilities include a new iPod touch, “tall” iPod nano, MacBook with glass trackpad, newly designed MacBook Pros, and, of course, a Mac tablet.

WHERE’S THE CASH?

While Social networking sites are all the buzz - the advertising buzz just doesn’t match up. Social networking sites may be attracting tons of visitors, friend seekers and late night hook ups - no one is clicking on the ads that litter these sites. Will the companies figure out sure-fire ways to get us to click through? Or will we wind up paying money for our Facebook and MySpace accounts, like we do for LinkedIn and Classmates.com? Who would have thought with all that trash littering the screen, NO ONE is clicking the ads? We’re quite surprised, actually. Check out the story HERE, from ABC News.

THAT’S GOING TO LEAVE A MARK

There was a bit of an error running around the web over the weekend. While the bug has been beaten down and removed - we never noticed it. Why? Because it only affected Internet Explorer browsers. And, if you weren’t using Internet Explorer, you wouldn’t have noticed it either. Isn’t it time to give that tired old browser a rest? Click HERE for a more unbiased take on the trouble (we just cant help ourselves…).

Introducing Paul…..

introducing-paul

Hello World.  I’m Paul, and I’m a tech whore. Not just a little bit, I’ll stick my hard drive in about anything that’s new and flashy and claims to do something better.  I like to stay on top of all the new up and coming products.  I’m the guy telling my friends not to buy a certain product because I heard that in two weeks a new model is being released.  I also so love to tinker, I get that from my dad, in the past I’ve taken a P.O.S. Dell and turned into a wonderful working beautiful Apple, or a HACKINTOSH some call it.  I’ve also decided to turn my old XBOX into a media server, I’m going to start that project tomorrow.  To put it simply, I like to just try new things with technology.

My current Tech setup is as follows:

  • Macbook Pro 15′”
  • G5 Mac Pro w/ 23″ Cinema Display
  • Blackberry Curve
  • Custom PC w/ Pentium 4 processor
  • Canon Powershot SD750

Those are the devices that I tend to use on a daily basis.  I’m also trying to justify buying an iphone, but I’m having a hard time to because the blackberry is the best phone I’ve ever used hands down.

I also would like to give you a brief tour of our Art Deco Lounge.  Pictures below.

I got this from my old job, and it sounded like a great name for a studio

I hope that this gives you a nice introduction to myself, with that I leave you for now.

Today’s the Day! Average Joe Tech Show Premieres

Welcome to the Blog and to the Show!

Well, today’s the day - after a good, I dunno, five or ten minutes prep time, The Average Joe Tech Show is hitting the airwaves and the blogosphere.

Paul and myself are each bringing a different set of accomplishments and perspectives to the world of technology and the world of the internet. Together, I think we make a well-rounded package, offering you insights into shiny new gizmos, as well as giving you the foundation to build your own presence on the web. From the serious to the silly, we plan on helping you navigate the new frontier.

And a new frontier it is. It may be a series of electronic devises pushing packets of data around, but the internet really is a world unto itself: we go there for entertainment, for shopping, for insight. We build avatars of ourselves, and throw our opinions around as if we were all standing around the water cooler at work.

I don’t have a phone book any more. Why, when I can look up all the local restaurants on-line? I don’t subscribe to the paper, I have my news delivered to my in box. And only the news of my choosing, thank you very much.

People don’t have to set up shops anymore, they can build their presence solely on line, whether a major player like Amazon, or just a guy named Joe setting up an Ebay account. All have equal footing in this electronic wonderland called the web.

Have something to say? Then say it. This world has plenty of ears, and unlimited venues: Start that blog, premiere your own radio show, give flight to your ideas. If Andy Warhol were still with us, I think he would revise his thoughts about 15 minutes of fame: It would be much longer now, and he would make his new statement on his own website, not bothering to look around for a reporter.

Navigating this new planet is not easy, as new thoughts, services, and languages are added daily. Someone has a new product, a new toy, a new solution. Just like any new frontier, there are those with our best interests at heart, and those who are hawking snake oil to whomever is gullible enough to listen.

That’s what we’re here for. To help you navigate, avoid the potholes and build your presence. If you’re just having fun or seriously looking to set up shop in this new fronteir, we’ve got a bit of something for you. Give the radio show a listen, ask a question or two, and we’ll travel down the road together.

COME TOGETHER

Sirius and XM digital music services got the go ahead from the FCC to complete their proposed merger, with Sirius buying out XM for 3.3 Billion dollars (us). Does this really bode well for the satellite radio industry? Heck is there really an actual satellite radio industry, considering that there were only two companies in the first place? Check it the story HERE from CNN.

DON’T GET MAD, GET EVEN

Marco Zaldivar was ticked. He didn’t text, but was getting charged for advertising and other unsolicited texts that showed up on his and his family’s phones. He asked T-Mobile nicely to turn off his texting service, which was costing him 20 to 30 bucks extra each month. They said “No, texting is a part of your service. it doesn’t turn off,” so - he’s suing them for violating Consumer Protection laws. T-Mobile now says that they have the ability for consumers to turn off texting, but a US District court in Seattle said “no” to T-Mobile - as in no, we won’t dismiss the case. Check it out HERE from MSNBC.
